Pardon My Appearance
work December 11th, 2007The Junk Drawer has undergone some serious cosmetic surgery today and is in recovery. I’ve been in the process of moving to WordPress and things went a little haywire for several hours today.
My blog’s appearance may change over the next few days, so bear with me. My old backlinks also do not work, but will be repaired in the next day or so.
Please check back for a new look and new posts soon!
UPDATE 12/12: This is my site’s final look. If I kept searching for a theme that was perfect, I wouldn’t be done until January.
This theme has most of the features I needed, won’t require too much tweaking, and so it got the thumbs-up. I hope you like it, too!
I still need to resolve some issues with links and RSS feeds. Thanks for your patience.

@ Robert — Well, I know I wasn’t technically up for it, and I still have work to do. I’m trying to figure out how I can sue Google for my pain and suffering. I never wanted to move, but their nonsense with commenting drove me away!

Hi, Rose! I’m not quite there yet. If you check back in a minute, there might be another theme up! I just can’t pick the one I want. This does not bode well….

@ Mike — I’ve since changed my theme and it won’t be the last time, I’m sure. Some themes have features that I want, but others I don’t. It is a nightmare to choose. This is exactly what I didn’t want to happen, spending the weeks before Christmas tweaking things. Pray for me. I’m not done yet.
@ Windyridge — You can’t imagine how bad this went. I’ll probably post about it soon. That is, if I ever settle this thing. I came across a theme called Exhausted and I almost picked it because it just fits for how I feel right now!

JD — Thanks for being a Junk Drawer tester! I should hand out badges and prizes.
December 12th, 2007 at 9:53 am
I’d better come up with something more prize-worthy than “Wheee” or “Lookin’ good,” in that case!

Just watch out. I might require you write a haiku to be eligible for prizes. I know someone who’s done that 🙂

Kathy,
Congratulations! The move is official. I like the looks, but I’m betting it will be different tomorrow. :0D Glad things are up and working for you. Look on the bright side. You’ve got the rest of your life to tweak it!
Again, congratulations!

Lee — Well, I’m there, but some things aren’t working perfectly. I am settled on this theme, though. It wasn’t my first choice, obviously, but it had almost everything I needed formatting and widget-wise.
Not an easy move. I’ll probably post about it later. Thanks for your support during my move!

Welcome to the WordPress family! (I’m not just the WordPress spokesperson, I’m also a client.)
December 12th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
@ Kev — Well, I’m not a happy member of WordPress yet. There are two major issues going on. My Feedburner stuff is messed up, and I’m not getting notified of new comments. You don’t want to know what I want to do the the Google folks right now. I blame this all on them.

Jaffer — You have no idea what I’ve been through. It would take me an hour to describe what happened. I’m almost there. Handled a couple emergencies today (fixing RSS, fixing internal links and reformatting all imported posts). My hands are crippled, I’m starving and I could use a drink (and I don’t even drink!)

You’ll be happy in the long run with using WordPress. I migrated along time ago (and multiple blogs ago) to WordPress. I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, broken, fixed and switched themes/plugins more than I can count. I tend to spend more time doing that than actually blogging.
Anyway… here is a nice resource for perusing some very nice themes if you should want to wander.

(“83 Beautiful WordPress Themes (You Probably) Haven’t Seen.”)
BTW, the theme you picked is very nice. Clean, simple and easy to navigate.

December 13th, 2007 at 8:53 pm
@ BigNerd — That’s what happened to me. I spent about half my hours searching for a theme, and the other half making things work to my liking. Although I know I needed to move off Blogger because of their recent commenting change, I did want to stay there because I could concentrate solely on writing. The WordPress move threw me off-track. But I’m excited to get settled into writing again. I’ve really missed it.
Now what did you go and send me more themes to review for? You’ll call me a liar, but I looked at over 3,000 themes (90% in thumbnail view, 8% in test view, and 2% I actually downloaded and tried out.) It was a crippling, miserable experience. I’m glad you like this theme. I’m sticking with it I think! That is, unless I check out that link you sent ….

Congratulations – I knew you could do it!
I’ll give you five bucks if you do mine.

@ Jeff — I’m sure you meant to say five hundred bucks. Yeah, I’d do it for five bills.
