Not Even the Bunnies Can Make This Cute
embarrassing April 5th, 2008The bunnies requested blindfolds, but were sadly denied.
Sorry, bunnies. I don’t like looking at me either.
Addendum: For full-frontal nerdage, see Poindexter in a Dress.
Stumble it!

May I ask what on god’s green earth is going on in this picture?

Bunnies, cake, veil, squinty glasses . . . this must be The Junk Drawer!
The bunnies clearly love looking at you, as do I. You are a cutie! (but lose the veil)

Just remember you probably didn’t have a lot of choice in what you were going to be wearing that day and your mom more than likely picked out your glasses… in other words, it’s not your fault.
April 5th, 2008 at 8:54 am
You may not like looking at it now, but you sure as hell seem tickled to death in the picture.
I’m all for more happy days…

Ok, I know I made those bunnies in sunday school..shoe boxes, right? with cotton balls and pipe cleaner! I also made the egg carton caterpillars…
Somewhere there exists a photo of myself and my mother, in matching yellow seersucker dresses, with hats and gloves. Mom has the 60’s bouffant hairdo , I have a most unflattering pageboy cut. It was Easter, 1965. It will never touch the internet, LOL!

1) This could be the beginning of a Steven King novel.
2) What are the bunnies made out of?
3) I have no more (patented!) 5 point comments to leave.

Margaret — I stuck an addendum on the post so you could get the full description of what led to this. I’m sorry. I know it must’ve been an assault to your senses. Forgive me?
JD — Yep. The Junk Drawer’s got everything! And bless your heart for saying I’m cute. What a friend!
sarah — See addendum. Really, go look. I laughed hard when you suggested my mom picked out the glasses.
Mizmell — I know! I look slightly possessed! It’s because I’m holding a cake. And so would begin my love affair with the vanilla confection that is Special Occasion Cake.
Jaffer — That’s OK. It’s mine, too. It’s truly inexplicable.
Shadowsrider — OK, here’s the deal. I think the bunnies are made from milk cartons, but now I wonder if they were shoe boxes since you mention it. We made a lot of things from milk cartons, so that’s my best guess. Sure, tempt me with a mid-60s picture! I wanna see it!
BigNerd — The bunnies look like they want to attack me, yes? I’m voting milk cartons, but Shadowsrider might be right. What? No 5-point comment! That makes me want to cry more than looking at this picture does! Bring it back. I’ll even let you drop a 2-point comment below to make up for it!
Swubird — I was as square as they came. Or are you suggesting I look like a science experiment? Either way, you’re right!
Libertine — You don’t know how often I thank God I didn’t have braces. Can you imagine that?
KFJ — I have very few pictures from later in life with such a toothy smile. It was only after I had dental work done to tone down my pointy canine teeth that I smiled fully again. I’m such a sad story.

Aw c’mon, I think you look very cute. You are so happy in this picture. But I can’t for the life of me figure out why the cake didn’t slide off the plate!?

What with you and the herds of animals?
April 6th, 2008 at 6:31 am
windyridge — I can’t either! There was probably so much icing on the bottom, though. Like plaster!
Regan — True. Bacon makes everything better!
Jeff — Like most of my pictures, I can’t explain it. I don’t even remember making them. And why are there so many?!?!

April 6th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Harris — If you click the Embarrassing tag, you can find many more where that came from. Sorry in advance.
Amy — I don’t know why we made so many! Don’t even remember making them, but it looks like we went through two bags of cotton balls, don’t it?
April 6th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
The first thing I thought of when I saw the picture was the television show The Wonder Years. Danica McKellar looked a lot like that in the opening credits. Remember the baseball cap, glasses, rolled up blue jeans, etc.? Just like Danica, you turned out pretty cute in the end. Just more support for the Ugly Duckling syndrome.

OMG! We made the same bunnies at girl scouts! Did you by chance ever make a Christmas angel out of a phone book (spray painted a lovely gold)? Ever make anything out of elbow macaroni, also spray painted gold?
Now that I think about it, I was probably exposed to a ton of carcinogens as a brownie/girl scout. We met after school in the asbestos-laden church basement and used lots of spray paint.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
So sweet and happy.
I had the same glasses, only mine were purple. I was so excited to have purple glasses! (For that matter, I was excited to have glasses in general. Weird. Not so happy when braces were added.)

Bruce — What? The veil doesn’t say Chanel to you? Glad it gave you a laugh. I still laugh when I lay eyes on it.
Susan — OK. Never made an angel out of a phone book. I’ll have to Google that. Sounds like I missed out! I did make my fair share of elbow noodle creations. And, of course, in catholic school, we made crosses out of stick matches. About a hundred of them laid side by side on a cardboard cutout. You had to strike them all, so they’d have burnt ends and wouldn’t go up in flames later. Yeah. Fire and children. Always a good mix.
Shieldmaiden96 — Purple glasses? You wanted them? Sorry about the braces. I was mercifully spared them.
April 7th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Wow. Well, at least you looked happy….

Okay. That’s it! I’m going to have to find that old yearbook pic I was telling you about with the argyle turtleneck dress.
I must admit, my first communion picture was pretty sweet. That was before the horn-rims and the polyester clothing. Did you ever have those “jeans” that were made of stretchy flecked polyester with the top-stitching? My cousin so kindly handed down 3 pairs of those mortifying things.

Maureen — I’m sorry I made you do it, but I’m thrilled at the same time. It’s truly horrifying.

Oh! I’ll have to raid my mom’s photo albums. I wish I had a scanner. It would be so much easier than trying to take digital photos of photos.
“Big lunches”? You bet! Scrawny little kid with the appetite of a 12th Grade Quarterback.
