Blogtations: My New Addiction
Fun July 7th, 2008I’ve just discovered a most excellent site that made me react the same way I did when I discovered chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream:
Why didn’t someone think of this sooner?
The site, called Blogtations, is chock full of quotations taken from some really outstanding blogs. The site owner, a self-described quote addict, scours blogs looking for quotable material and posts a handful every Monday (and sometimes Friday). One of her fans called it “Like Bartlett’s, only bloggy.” She also takes recommendations, so go ahead and submit some of your favorite quotes from your favorite blogs. You might make someone’s day.
A word of warning: The site is addictive. The quotes are so high-quality, you’ll find yourself saying “Just one more.” And then you’ll keep reading. And miss meetings. And be late for dinner. The only problem with me having read everything in her archives is now I have to wait a week for new material. Crap!
What’s more is that I’ve been introduced to some fantastic blogs and felt a little annoyed that I hadn’t found them before. Where have all these great blogs been hiding?
Blogtations is the blogosphere’s best kept secret. But hopefully not for long! Head on over and check it out.
Stumble it!

You think you’ve already discovered all the good blogs out there, and then BLAMMO! Blogtations comes along and introduces you to a whole new bunch. I love this blog and the whole idea of quoting bloggers. I’m wondering if there’s a way to quote commenters!

Oh no! Not another ‘quote site’! I’m already addicted to this one, notalwaysright.com. It’s a bunch of dialouge about how annoying and wrong the customer actually is. Well, It’s something else to do if I’m bored…
July 7th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
I see one of my favourites of yours is right there … on top!

Jaffer — I have to say I was flabbergasted that she quoted me. About the toilet seat, no less. Such an honor. After I read through all the others, I thought “OMG. There are way better bloggers than me. Please take my toilet seat out!”
JD at I Do Things — ABSOLUTELY! The discovery was a eureka moment for me. I’m honored she found something from my blog and made me aware of hers. It’s an idea whose time has come and she does it so well.
DrowseyMonkey — Hope you like it as much as I do. I know we’re all reading a million blogs a day, but I make room for this one because it’s gold! And yeah, my toilet seat made it. Still cracks me up that it got selected.
Regan — I like that customer blog, too. Makes me happy I don’t work in retail. Sorry to add another to your roster!
July 7th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
o my god when i opened up the page i saw your blog i love it
July 7th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
I’m thrilled to feature your quote! The image of your hubby ripping the toilet seat off while cleaning it makes me smile each time I think of it.
Also, Regan, this quotaholic thanks you for mentioning notalwaysright.com Great site! Three of my four kids work in retail at the moment and the stories they can tell…
July 7th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Thanks for the alert – it is a fantastic site
July 7th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Now no offense to Musing above, but would you have said it was the best site if they hadn’t quoted you? Did you say that before or after they quoted you? Be truthful. π

I’m a quote addict, too. Thanks for the heads-up.
Sometimes, I’ll do posts of quotes and my comments responding to each one. Other times I’ll build an essay on a single quote.
Quotes are great blogging fodder all around.

brooke — I am so honored to be placed in such good company. Made my day to be selected.
Musing — Thank you again for the mention. But most of all, thank you for running such a great site. It’s really a gem!
Daniel — Agreed! I’m a quote addict now, too.
unfinishedperson — Without a doubt, I would have said it was the best site. When I found out about it, I spent the next hour reading every single quote she has in her archives. I can’t remember the last time I bothered to dig that far through a site/blog. She’s really got a good thing going there.
Vegas Princess — Only the toilet seat one, but it’s my life’s mission to get quoted again!
Libertine — Quotes are so versatile. Either for a leaping off point, or as in a list. I like how you incorporate them in your blog. Nice twist.
Babs beetle — It’s nice to see these quotes pulled out of their original postings and seeing new life. She does such a great service for some excellent blogs I wouldn’t have found otherwise.

I have to agree with JD that comments are a goldmine of quotable material. I love anything that allows my bloggy friends to reach more readers.
July 8th, 2008 at 7:24 am
Kathy, haven’t I already told you I have too many blogs in my feeder already? You can be so inconsiderate sometimes. Sheesh.

The men cleaning the bathroom quote was a good one from you. When I married my husband it was with the plan that he would clean the bathroom because men make the most mess in there. he agreed. But he did not stick to the plan. He did continue the part about making the most (gross) mess.

ann of the shampoo bag — Some of the best stuff is in the comments. And you, my dear, need your own blog. Come on! Don’t deny us!
Jeff — I know, I know. I’m sorry! But it’s updated only once weekly, and it’s a quick read, so don’t be too mad at me!
Craft Junkie — I’m all about giving people their fixes. Glad I could be of service.
Swubird — I got sucked into it right away, telling myself I’d go back later. Never happened. Read the whole thing in one sitting.
Beamer — You are so right. One of the reasons I admire it so much is the quality of quotes. You have to spend a lot of time sifting through tons of them to get just the gems. My hat goes off to the woman who runs it. Gotta be hard work.
Rickey Henderson — I’m happy to have alerted Ricky to a new site. Ricky needs to be on top of things.
feefifoto — Sorry! But the good thing is you can read it in bits ‘n pieces. Except if you’re like me and read the whole thing at once. But if you get caught up, it’ll be easier to read the next batches because they’ll be in bite-sized chunks.
Laura — My husband and I play this little game to see who can go the longest trying to ignore the funk. I always win. Vacuuming is my thing. Toilets are his. I just have to get him to tone it down a bit.
Jay — Don’t worry. We’ll send “search and rescue!”
Lauren — Happy to oblige. It’s not often I find such a great site that I want to shout it from the mountaintops. This one was so worthy.

Yup, I stuck that blogs needle in my arm….and I feel warm and fuzzy all over….and somewhat entertained. (you just like it because they used your quote…..)

In your reply to Jaffer you broke a rule of blogging: “Never critique your own blog. You’re not qualified!” The reason for that is we hyper critical of our own blogs. Remember all the heat I took when I wrote that my blog was boring? π
July 8th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
I love quotes! I sat and read the whole list. Then I read most of another blog whose quote caught my eye. Then I realized I needed to get SOME work done today. Thanks for pointing this great blog out!

What a wonderful sight, indeed! I have a habit of reading all the block quotes in magazine articles first and then going back and reading the story start to finish. Blogtations feeds my quote hunger quite nicely!

Bruce — Promise when you need a 12-step program you won’t blame it on me?
Lee — Point taken. I promise I won’t do it again. Lee, you’re always looking out for me.
Shadowsrider — I should have said “Only go over there if you have a whole afternoon to kill.” Sorry! Now back to work!
Vivienne — I do the same thing with magazines. Reading quotes and snippets is may way of warming up for longer articles.

Henson Ray — Hope you like it as much as I do. Careful about the addiction part. Plan your time wisely.
Bababooey — Ah, gee thanks! I’d say you were crazy, but then Lee would get all over me about it. So I’ll just take the compliment and shut up about it.
Bucky — You know, I’m always looking too. But this one got under my radar somehow. I’m glad I found it and could share with others. It scored such high marks with me.
