Happy Birthday, Junk Drawer!
food, Fun July 29th, 2008One year ago today, the Junk Drawer opened for business. I’m very excited, as I never dreamed my blog would make it this far or that I would be blessed with the readership I have. Also, there’s going to be cake.
But this day isn’t about me — it’s all about you! And cake.
Thank you for your visits here. Thank you for leaving me the most hilarious comments in The Drawer. Thank you for making me feel that it’s OK to be a little bent. Well, a lot bent.
If you commented here, put me in your blogroll, Stumbled my posts, told your friends about me, subscribed to my feed or bought me cake, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
I’m deeply grateful to have met so many of you online and gotten to know you through your blogs and emails. I feel like The Junk Drawer belongs to all of us. We’re a community. Writing here and reading your responses has been some of the most fun I’ve had in my life, with or without cake. Toast yourselves and know that I wouldn’t keep doing this if not for you.
Please celebrate this milestone with me and give yourselves a pat on the back for being a part of The Junk Drawer’s success and remember that birthdays are a fun time to look back on the past year, examine our lives and ….. oh, shut up Kathy! Serve the CAKE already!
Pass me a fork!

Kathy:
Cool idea. Okay, I give myself big kudos for reading your blog. Thanks. Plus, tomorrow is my Queen’s birthday, so I don’t have to buy her a cake. Too many calories anyway. I like her to remain the same size as she was when we were teenagers. Yeah baby. I’ll just lure her into my secret office to gander at your cake. Yummy! Thanks again. The benefits of reading your blog just never seem to end. What do they call it at McDonalds? The bottomless drink.
It’s been fun.
Happy trails.

Congrats on your one year blogiversary! And a cake sounds really good, but by the time it gets shipped to me, it will probably be a moldy mess, unless it’s already pumped full with preservatives such as benazygotatits.
But, anyway, congrats again! Quite a nice accomplishment to stick with it!

Jennifer — Thanks! They say the first year is always the hardest.
Curtis — Hey, fellow Tweeter! Thanks for always dropping in. I think we met up at Bloke’s place, right? He’s the perfect matchmaker.
Chelle — The cake was awesome, but I would never take credit for making it. Completely store bought, but tasted like I made it at home. Oh, wait. No. If it tasted like I made it at home, I’d be in the ER right now.
Comedy Plus — Good to see you. Thanks and I’m glad I found you on EC. Why’d I wait so long to join?
Shadowsrider — Whew! I know there’s a faction of people who absolutely swear off the sweet kind of icing. What do they know? Believe it or not, there is one last 2″ x 2″ corner piece left. Most of it is icing. It’s all yours!
Swubird — I’m so glad you joined the party! Please wish the Queen a happy birthday for me, will ya? Thank you, my friend, for your visits and witty comments. They always make me smile.
Jesster — Oh, man. I’ll pretend my cake was made with eggs and butter and nothing ending with -ites or -ates. Yeah, let’s say that. Thank you for dropping by!

Flusche — Never looked at it like that. I hope I can stay at PR4. I’m not shooting for higher, but I don’t want to drop either. Thank you!
manilenya — Um, that’s what you say. I think you’ll find I could easily eat cake every day. Not proud of it.
Donna — Thank you. I’m still on my birthday high! This has been great fun for me.

Aniya — Don’t worry, you’ll get there. You’re already three months in, so that’s good. And if you’re like me, you won’t believe it when the time comes!

Now I know what it’s like to show up at a party two weeks late! The best I can offer now is a belated “Happy Birthday,” and shove a couple of dollars in your fist while you tell me how delicious the cake that everyone else who showed up on time had the chance to taste, and how much fun everybody had playing “pin the tail on the tree-bag.” And I imagine everyone else got really cool goodie-bags with jacks or marbles or thesauruses or transformers or whatever kids get in those bags I never got at the birthday parties I’ve been to.
And it’s not like this date isn’t already burned into my brain. The Junk Drawer’s birthday is the same day as my parents’ anniversary, which is also the same day Prince Charles married Diana, which had to have been on your mind when you began writing this blog.
SO… a happy belated birthday to TJD. I’ve had a blast reading, and can’t wait to show up on time for your second birthday–on my parents’ 47th anniversary–to check on the bag in the tree and scarf down some cake.

Don — Don’t worry, latecomers still get party favors. Want a magnet? OK, so now you have no excuse if you miss the next birthday. I’m counting on you to be here first. About Diana, I actually remember the day she died, since it was on my human birthday. Thank you for the well-wishes and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if the bag is still in the tree. Seriously. It ain’t movin’.
