Because We Planned on Speeding
food, Travel September 21st, 2008Yeah, that’s right. We buckled up our takeout food. Got a problem with that?
First person to correctly guess what comprised our precious cargo gets a Junk Drawer magnet. Hint: There was a protein (x6) and a side (x2).
To those who were following me on Twitter two hours ago, we never got the ice cream.
Stumble it!

Now I’m hungry. Where can you buy takeout pierogies?
Probably not here in Florida!

Singular Girl — Kids, pets and burritos should always be buckled up! You reminded me of a story a co-worker told me. She once took a loaded crock pot full of barbecue to a family picnic. She had to stop suddenly for a pedestrian and the pot went flying and so did the contents. When she got to the picnic, someone brought a shovel to the car and that’s how they got most of it out. What a mess!
Ian — Shannon, who commented after you, gave me the link to that story. I am constantly amazed at the stupidity that walks among us. Cripes almighty.
Shannon — Thanks for the link. Simply incredible.
Jeff — I rode in a friend’s minivan once. She has three kids. She had enough food on the floor for an entire meal. My sympathies.
Swubird — Thanks for the clarification. Never heard of RELOAD. I don’t know how they can sell that stuff. I know it’s popular with the kids. Me? I’d have either a panic attack, heart attack, or both, if I drank that.
Sniffie and the Florida Furkids — Pierogies are available as a side dish order in many hamburger and hot dog joints, right along with french fries. You’ll have that in Pennsylvania Dutch country. But if they sell Mrs. T’s in your freezer section, buy ’em, boil ’em, and fry ’em in butter. They’re the best kind if you have to buy from the grocery store.
Mike — Learned something new today. A shawarma sounds like a gyro (and a lot healthier than a cheeseburger). I’m hungry. Glad it’s dinnertime!

Nice posts! I will have to come back and read more…
Nice idea about strapping takeout… Makes sense… especially for cake.

Kat — Oh, yeah. CAKE! I gotta remember that. Usually I put it on the floor if it fits. But the seat is even better. Lock it down, baby!
BK — I really need to get myself one of those cargo nets for my trunk so groceries don’t go flying around. I asked my dealer once about installing it and they would have needed my car too long. Maybe my next car. I’m lazy.
Ricardo Bueno — I’m not alone! Yea!
Mike Foster — Time was of the essence. The greasy spoon we got it from was probably a dozen miles away. No fried chicken, but with so many people guessing that, now I want some. (It was cheeseburgers and pierogies, for the record).
Annie — Nope, but close!
fragileheart — It’s at a place called Richard’s Drive-in (affectionately known as Greasy Dick’s). You’ll often find pierogies at take-out places in Pennsylvania. It’s Dutch Country here. Didn’t I follow your Twitter? I’ll find you and follow!

interesting very interesting. Instead of a seatbelt for our take out food we have a brooke which is a persinal food holder.

[…] If you’re going to speed at least remember to buckle up! […]
September 27th, 2008 at 6:39 am
That is great. We usually put ours on the floor and I keep it in between my feet while the boyfriend drives or right on my lap, but then we run into the problem where some of the food will be gone by the time we actually get home.

brooke — Suggest to your parents they use the seat belt and then you won’t have a potential grease splat in your lap.
Holly — Oh, yeah. I’m real familiar with the “food will be gone” problem. That’s another reason why it should be buckled up in the back seat. I can’t be trusted with warm, mouth-watering food on my lap.
September 27th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
…and some people don’t even buckle in their children! You can never be too safe, I always say. 😉
Great post!

That pic makes me laugh sooooo hard!!! One of the questions on my learner’s permit test asked what the seat belt is used for………one of the options was “to strap in the groceries” HILARIOUS!!!!
and, no…….I didn’t pick that answer!!!!

Crazy Working Mom — Geez, remember when it was OK to drive around with kids sitting in your lap or them crawling all over the car?
KFJ — Who knew one day it wouldn’t be considered the joke answer. Funny!

I love the pic. I saved it and sent it too my wife. Even if I’m not speeding I love to buckle up my food. She says we need to use the seat belt for the kids, huh go figure.
February 6th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
Fish House — Well, you gotta give her props for protecting all your precious cargo! Hey, if food could hold itself still in the seat, we wouldn’t need to strap it in, now would we? Silly food.

I don’t know, I am always afraid they will screw up my order-and there isn’t much vegetarian stuff locally to take out anyways
