Windy Stands Alone
Windy December 17th, 2009Our Windy is alone for the winter now. All the leaves have gone. No protection from the elements.
*sniff*
For those who’ve lost track of how long she’s been stuck in her tree, it’s 1 year, 8 months.
Is it too early to start planning her second birthday party? There will be cake again and I might rent a reception hall and hire a band. Too much?
For those who wandered into this blog and don’t know about the Windy saga, check out the Windy archive of posts.
Here’s a video of her I filmed this morning, marking yet another successful photo shoot wherein I do not fall off the roof of my building to my death. Yea for me!

I don’t think it’s too early at all to start planning her party. You want to make sure you get that hall reserved before the date is taken.

Interesting Stuff Windy. Will drop cards more often now, and comments too!

Is there anybody left in the running for guessing how long she would stay there? She at least deserves a live band at this party, as she dances so well 😉

Poor Windy. She looks so frail now. I think you better plan a birthday though. She has held on this long so she may surprise us yet.

Wow, 1 year, 8 months! She is tough for an old bag!
I’m guessing she’ll make her two year anniversary, and that also means I’ve been following your blog for at least that long! Wow! Lucky me! I might just bake a cake for my own self!!! 🙂

Windy totally waved at me in that video! I’ll be looking forward to some of her birthday cake, and I think the live band is a great idea. Or you could always compromise and hire a DJ.

ann — You’re right, what with all the spring weddings coming up.
Jaky Astik — There’s more weird stuff here besides Windy, so yes, please come back!
Babs Beetle — OK, I just checked and there is exactly one person left in the running. She guessed May 15, 2010. Unfortunately, she doesn’t follow Junk Drawer anymore and her blog is dead. I’m going to try and contact her via the email off her last comment.
Jessica — She does. She’s only strips of plastic now. I just know she’ll make it to 2 years!
John J Savo — She hears you.
Lin — I love that people think of her and Junk Drawer when they see other bags in similar distress. It’s both strange and comforting.
Ferd — I don’t need much of a reason for cake, so yeah. Get one for your own self for hanging with us this long and save me a piece, will ya?
Surfie — I know! She always does “the wave” when I film her. Such a cooperative little girl. Yes, a DJ might be better, just in case a band doesn’t know how to play Windy by The Association. Cuz we’re playing that on loop.
Kim — I love when people think of us when they spot other stuck bags. Awesome.
daughterbonnie — She does look peaceful. Almost makes me feel better about her situation. If she’s OK, I’m OK.
Nanny Goats — I thought the same thing. She’s got that multi-tentacle thing goin’ on now.
Chinaren — Yes, Gusty and Co. either blew away on their own, or the maintenance people at work came and took them down. I still swear someone who reads this blog was messing with my head and put them there!
cardiogirl — Yes, she’s looking pretty ragged. And I like your idea of a “dog years” scale for her. And, hey, if she makes it two years, she may actually make it 23.
Daisy’s mom — I know. But I try to look at it like she’s got stamina instead of thinking how frail she looks. It helps me cope.

Gee Kathy, I hate to be a killjoy here, but there really isn’t much left of her. maybe we should plan a going away party? I know she has survived some pretty good storms, but still, she is no “hang on sloopy” I am not that optimistic, but I won’t bet against her!

I’ve heard the song “Windy” several times over the last few weeks, and I always think of “our” Windy. I had been wondering how long she’s been up there.
And, no. It’s not too early to start planning her 2d birthday party. If anything, you’re late. Get cracking, missy!

Kathy, after looking at the latest pictures of Windy I have to become Official Coroner and pronounce Windy dead! Saying that this is Windy is almost akin to digging up George Washington and holding a contest to predict when he’s going to die. Over — done — adios — Windy is dead! Long live Windy!
It’s time to face reality and admit that Windy’s spirit is long gone. All that remains in that tree is the empty shell of what Windy once was.

Chris Casey — I’m going to ignore your comment and if you ever say that again, well I don’t know what I’m going to do. Yes, I’m in denial.
Marg — She’ll be two in April. I’m having that party, not matter what. It’ll be a nice way to celebrate spring.
Data Entry Services — Absolutely! I was hoping I could get some publicity for Windy and make an environmental point at the same time. Never panned out.
JD at I Do Things — I heard “Windy” in a grocery store a few weeks ago and it made me smile out loud.
Lidian — She’d be happy to hear you say that!
Pricilla — Ha!
Knucklehead! — Oh, it will be. As I told a friend, it’ll be huge. We’ll have lots of cake and food. I’ll get up and say a few words about what Windy has meant to me. And then the men in white coats will come and take me away. In case I suddenly stop blogging, that’ll be why.
Brenda at Split Rock Ranch — She is, but if you consider how much of her actual body is left (only split), a lot of her is left.
Barb — I know! But stop saying that! I’m in denial!
Tarheel Rambler — Bite your tongue!!!! I will NOT face reality and if you ever say she’s dead again, we can’t be friends anymore.
Dorothy Stahlnecker — That’s Ms. (tee hee). I’ll be overjoyed at the two year mark. Boy, I remember the first day I saw her like it was yesterday.
Regan — Plastic bags like to be reused so they don’t die. The best thing I can do for her is keep paying homage to her. Long live Windy!
earthtoholly — Yes, she does look like either a ghost Halloween decoration or an octopus, doesn’t she? I’m afraid it might be, too. I don’t want to go there, though. Chris and Tarheel really got me down (see above).
Unfinished Rambler — I will do that next time. Didn’t have time this time, sorry. Here’s the link to a musical Windy.
CatLadyLarew — Hear hear!
DJ — Same here. Not really feeling Christmas this year.

It looks like windy has some relatives! They are popping up everywhere. Maybe a family reunion is needed at the party!
December 20th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
Wendy is looking pretty tattered. I believe her problem is that she never reproduced. Surely someone in PA could head up to the campus with a “hot stick” (ask anyone with Penelec) and place several “breeding pairs” (go to Target, their bags have better mils) up in the tree? Savo, this could be a job for you!

No Way!!
December 22nd, 2009 at 2:43 pm
This is REALLY funny. I had not seen the Windy saga – first time today. Makes me think about a soccer ball my middle child got. Shiny brand new… and THAT day my oldest kicks it and it goes up in our oak tree. For YEARS my kids threw stuff at it – but it would not budge. Now, about five years later, we had a nor’easter and the whole tree came down. A day or so later my middle son called and said, “MOM! I have my soccer ball back!” I had completely forgotten about it. It was sagging, dirty and cracked, but he had it back.
