I’m All For Eco-Friendly, But Geez….
food, Stuff I hate January 30th, 2010Has anyone bought Sun Chips in the new eco-friendly bag? Ay-carumba!
They are touted as the first of their kind to be “100% compostable.” That’s great, but they’re loud as hell!
I Googled the issue and found a few discussion boards where people left the following comments:
I swear it’s capable of waking the dead if you so much as breath in its general direction, much less actually touch it or reach inside to get a chip.
Just curious about other’s comments on this ear-splitting bag. Is a fully compostable bag worth it if everyone within 1/2 mile knows you’re eating Sun Chips?
My wife was asleep upstairs and I opened the bag in the kitchen and it literally woke her up. Man that bag is loud!
Well, at least the neighbors know you are engaging in the proper consumption of said “Sun Chips”. Next time you go out and pick up your mail just say you had an excellent dip experience.
Sounds like a car crash whenever I go to grab a chip.
I’m all about snacking, but I’d like to do it in peace. Does everyone have to know I’m off my diet?
Have a listen…..
Stumble it!

I couldn’t hear you clearly because of the noise. All we need to do is to recycle. why don’t we cut the snack bag into pieces and make it pillow. Its a Eco friendly you can help the environment to lessen our garbage. More power to your site thanks for sharing us this video. God bless 😉

If the vast majority of companies didnt see the money sign whenever they go, or appear to go eco they wouldnt do it. The supermarkets are all jumping on the wagon in the UK, love food hate waste etc etc. One look in their bins on the other hand which are always bulging over you will see a different story.
Rant over- as for the sun chips, Im flying to salt lake city in a week (not very eco I know but at least I dont lie to people and tell them im going by rowing boat – its the facade of the whole thing that irritates me) so i’ll experiment when I get to the States- although Salt Lake city is a Mormon town, do Mormoms approve of crisps? it wouldnt surprise me either way….

Thanks for posting the video- you’re way more photogenic than I am, so I linked to you from my post about my experiment composting these chip bags. Speaking of your cat, I think my brother once bought us a cat toy that was equally loud and crinkly. An act of revenge, I think- you buy his kids one drumset, and all of a sudden you’re that guy…

OMG – you are so funny. You joke about waking the dead, but my fiance was sleeping one night and I was eating some of those, and…I woke him up! He sleeps like the dead! I loved the video – I haven’t giggled that much in a million years!

I’ve got one in my compost barrel right now – I keep watching for it to break down. I think it’s something like 13 weeks to full decomposition. I don’t know if I have that much patience.

This is hysterical! I love your quote in the Wall Street Journal.
People could solve the whole noisy chip bag issue if they made their own potato chips, and used a brown paper bag. But that requires a little planning.
Can you imagine bringing your own bags to the chip dispenser at the grocery store? I also wonder if the plastics in the chip bag get into the bag’s contents. Makes me want to stop eating chips of any kind.

I thought this was going to be about the composting aspect of it. I am most curious about how it breaks down. I took a bag and didn’t cover it up, I just put it on the ground to see if it will decompose over the summer. It’s still there. It’s lighter in color but not really looking like it’s breaking down. So maybe I should blog about that and see if others are as skeptical as I am. I have the before picture and can take one now to show that over 3 months not much has happened. Just what is the material that is so crinkly????

Wow this is so typically American. Not convenient enough for you America? Should we be able to press a button instead and watch it vanish? Sure helping the environment can be an inconvenience but are you SERIOUSLY complaining about the sound of a crumpling bag?!?!? SERIOUSLY?!?!?! DO you know how great it is that its compostible?!?!? You people make me ill.

God forbid you should make a little noise while you stuff your fat face and save the fucking planet at the same time. And hey, let’s devote lots of time and energy talking about the burning issue of how loud a bag of chips is while we’re at it. Nothing more important than that.
October 6th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
I thought it was just me when I commented to my husband several months ago “can they make this bag any louder.” He chuckled and we moved on with life!
As for saving the earth, all for it, practice it everyday, but does not mean I have to endure a loud bag while eating my chips, while on the sofa, while watching the planet channel 🙂

congrats on being retarded. you make getting a single chip out of a bag look difficult.
…and congrats with operation “$%#@ the landfills!”. next time i go to the dump in kahalui, hi, i will think of you when i look at all the chip bags blowing into the ocean.

Have you ever thought of pouring the chips in a bowl? A little noise vs. 100s of years in a land fill? Are we really that lazy?
November 29th, 2010 at 7:07 am
IT IS NOISE POLLUTION, I AM NOT SURE HOW IT BECOME ECO-FRIENDLY.
