Everyone Knows It’s Windy
Windy November 25th, 2010Who’s peekin’ out from over the tree tops?
Smilin’ at everybody she sees?
Who’s reaching out to capture a moment?
Everyone knows it’s Windy!
Hi there, Windy! It was a long summer and we missed you. What’s that, you say? Not feelin’ too good?
Oh, don’t worry. Everyone feels their age when they get older. You still look good to us!
It was a rough road getting half-decent pictures of our Windy yesterday. Three different cameras, two dozen stills, and five videos. Crouching down by the roof wall, I did my best to capture what’s left of her.
At one point, I wanted to contact a professional photographer on staff where I work, someone with better skills and a better camera, but I was stymied by the thought of how I would explain the picture I needed taken. Not everyone understands.
But you do. You all understand.
I’m not sure what the future holds. Her third birthday will come in April. There have been murmurings of having funeral services for Windy, but I can’t bear the thought.
I’d rather celebrate her longevity with another cake and a party than somber music and tears for her passing.
Let’s pretend she’ll live forever, OK?
…. and Windy has wings to fly
Above the clouds….. above the clouds!!!!
Stumble it!

a funeral for Windy? Nonsense. I think she’s aging quite gracefully and just look at all the life left in her. I can see how full of life she is waving at us in the video. Another birthday celebration for her in April is definitely in order.

Poor Windy. Finally having to deal with the affects of aging. Stay strong, hold tight and enjoy the view.

It comes to us all. Still Windy can do it gracefully, I’m sure. At least one more birthday, and then you can think about a ‘laying to rest’ service for her.

It’s okay, Windy. Everyone gets a little frail when they get older. We all know you’re still hangin’ tough.

Wow. I’m amazed that Windy is still hanging in there.
Sometimes I wonder if your workplace is like a metaphorical island that you’ve crashed on, and Windy is your Wilson.

No! Our Windy is not ready for a funeral. She is flying beautifully. A birthday party in April should definitely be in the planning stages.
Hang in there, Windy!

Some day down the road, some stranger to your blog will find that video of Windy and wonder why a short video of a tree has over a million hits. 🙂
Windy is immortal. Her spirit will always live on through this blog!

Oh, and this means that if you ever stop blogging, you’re essentially killing Windy.
I hope you’re satisfied.

I love Windy! I believe a post about her was the first post I read when I found this blog and I thought “She’s crazy, and I love it!”. I will light a candle for her!

What a trooper! She’s still hanging on! Most of her little plastic shreds have already been scattered to the winds.
(Thanks for the ear-worm; now I can finally get Beyoncé’s “Halo” out of my head!)

ann — Windy would be so pleased to know you support her to the very end. I feel better now, too. No funeral until, well, maybe never!
Rachele — It’s truly amazing there is anything left of her. Northeastern winters are no friends of anyone. She’s made it through two now.
Babs Beetle — You don’t even want to know what Dave’s got planned for it, should the day come. Tiny casket, everyone dressed in tuxedos. And music. If that ever happens, I’ll just get in the ambulance to the mental hospital. No one has to drag me there.
absepa — She appreciates your support (though she now must wonder if I’m planning anything). I didn’t mean it, Windy!
J. Bear Savo — Windy is my Wilson, indeed. You know how much I loved this comment. You’re so, so right. I can’t bear to part with her.
Cats~Goats~Quotes — I’m uplifted to know so many of you don’t think it’s time for final services. I worried the last time I posted about her because some people said it was over. I shall have that party after all.
Barb — I’m sure Windy would thank you if she could and return the wish.
meleah rebeccah — Windy thanks you. And you are so right. I don’t think there is any other thing I’ve written about on this blog that will live in the memories of so many people as Windy will. What a crazy thing, eh?
Surfie — LMAO. You never know. And I would take every opportunity to explain things to newcomers. I love talking about our girl. Killing Windy? Bite your tongue! Never!
Wynn — What a wonderful piece of news. I love that you were introduced to Junk Drawer that way. Windy is Junk Drawer.
Daisy the Curly Cat — Right! Nothing like a bag at all. She’s talented like that. Morphing is her thing. She never goes away, just changes how she looks.
Poetikat — And she’s lucky most of her is wrapped around a branch. If not for hanging on so tight, there might be nothing left. She’s a fighter. (And you’re welcome. I’ve been singing it all day too!)

You know at first, even though I have read all the previous Windy posts, I thought “sure what person would miss a plastic bag?”!! Then I realized I had clicked on the photo to see her larger size, then watched the video, then clicked “replay”. Oh well, now we know.

She’s a tough ol’ bag. I’m thrilled she’s hanging in there. Why do people in other states want to ban her cousins? What’s wrong about a billion Windys in trees across the country?
With her age and body now, flapping in the breeze like that, she could make the move to an adult entertainment venue as a bottomless dancer.
Plan for the cake. Warm icing throughts will get her through a cold, icy winter.

This really made me very sad this morning. Poor Windy. She’s just not the same is she? Now I understand the “mere shadow of her former self” thing.

I totally agree with you – everyone has pants like this one. I got a 99% similar looking one to be honest *gg*
But i dont agree with that dryer thing. There is no need for a dryer if you dont wash “in time”. All our clothes are dryed outside or in the basement. Works like a charm and ironing isnt such a pain in the *** 😉

Just hearing the lyrics makes me smile (child of the 60s, what can I say), and I’m sure Windy (or the spirit of her) will live long! Thank you for entertaining us with her tale, and the idea that something so simple could unite so many people. Sometimes, it doesn’t take much, and it’s wonderful to know that there are many of us who can be entertained and united by your tales of Windy and other amusing things. Regardless of Windy’s outcome, please continue to inform and enlighten us! Happy Holidays!

She’s looking kinda ragged, but I admire her tenacity. I only gave her 3 months, and that was almost three years ago! Hang in there, Windy!
BTW, I LOVE her theme song! 🙂

I can’t believe I’ve been reading here that long! Poor Windy…no, no funeral!
November 27th, 2010 at 12:02 pm
Windy’s still there! I don’t thinks she’s ever really going to go anywhere now. Maybe plastic bags stuck in trees will be the cause of the ‘end of the world’ in 2012.
And even then Windy will probably be the sole survivor.
November 27th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
Will — You made me laugh. You understand. You really understand. Thank you.
Cromely — Did I mention there’s another Windy in a tree on the opposite side of the building? I’ve decided not to look for it. Not to photograph it. Then I can’t get attached again. Windy is so embarrassed by suggestion that she dance bottomless. But she forgives you.
Linda Medrano — I know. It’s bittersweet. Happy that she’s lasted this long, but worried for her immediate future.
Jackie — Thanks for fessing up about it. So, how bad does your underwear look? I do need a dryer for at least the winter. I like hanging things out on the back porch to dry in the sun, but it’s just so convenient to dry them in a machine. sorry!
Karen Hirst — Thanks for dropping by and you really summed up well how I feel about the Windy saga. When I think back to the first time I wrote about “the bag” (back when I was still calling it “the bag,” I had no idea it would turn into a love story. No idea at all. I’m thankful that my readers took to it like this. I’m grateful for everyone who doesn’t think I’m totally certifiable.
Ferd — I’ve long since given up looking at the list of people who tried to guess when she’d fall out. The last person was out of the running many months ago. Yeah, who’d a thunk it? I’ve been enjoying having her song in my head for days. Usually, I hate earworms, but this one makes me happy.
amber — Crazy, ain’t it?! I promise, no sad funeral. Maybe a joyous memorial. And cake, of course.
Regan — So, what month and day are we supposed to all be wiped off the face of the earth? I want to get my hair done for the occasion. I love the idea of Windy surviving after we’re long gone.

I feel like the local sheriff delivering bad news, Kathy, but Windy is long dead. What remains in the tree is more like what they found when they dug King Tut’s tomb out of the sand in Egypt.
November 29th, 2010 at 6:06 pm
The plastic bag I use to bring my lunch to work is starting to resemble Windy, but I have a hard time letting things go that I can still use, even if I have a drawer full of bags at home. I think Windy has outlived the pair of shoes that used to hang over the power lines outside my office until the string broke.
November 30th, 2010 at 7:31 pm
Oh my, Windy is looking so….so…so frail, so thin. Tsk. Tsk. She has really held up until late, poor gal. But I won’t give up on her! No! NEVER! I say, let’s celebrate! We will make every moment last, until….until….
*SOB* until there is no more, Windy. Boooohoooooo. Booooohooooo.

Awww….Windy! I love her. Look, here little tatters are still blowin’ in the wind. Perhaps like a Phoenix, she will be reborn from her tatters into a beautiful new bag in another tree. 🙂
