Fresh and delicious stories about anything that amuses me, confuses me, or makes me blow a gasket. Take a look around the drawer. Just leave everything where you found it.
I have had my eyes dilated several times, and it was several hours until it cleared up. I hear that they have reversal drops, and hubby has opted for that. The downside with those is that they burn. I’ll just stay inside and wait it out. I hate eye drops!
I will say I had a lot of drops when I had my laser surgery for narrow angle glaucoma. So every time I get my eyes checked, I get numbing drops to have my pressure checked. They don’t normally dilate me for a regular checkup.
I hate that blurry feeling! And then you go outside and the world is so bright! And then you try to drive back to work! The other cars all blur together. You can hardly see well enough to text, or to read the speedometer! 😎
Don’t you hate the *first* set of drops that numb your eyes so that the actual dilating stuff doesn’t burn your eyeballs out of your head?
It always burns, just a bit, to me so I’m conditioned to hate having it done. Last time they did it I looked like Puss in Boots with those Hu-YUGE pupils. My kids were fascinated.
It’s a crazy look when you can only see an 1/8th of an inch of color around the pupil.
Ron — I was wondering if you guys would want to shoot me for putting that up. God, I can’t even look at it again myself. Never had your eyes dilated? Wow. At least now you’ll know what to expect. Have someone drive you. That’s all I’m sayin’.
Karen — I used Pain.NET. There’s a blur feature. In my research someone said you can try to find “blur font” and download it, but that sounded more time-consuming. This did the trick!
lin — Ha! And sorry.
Grace — It’s clearer for me, too, when I take my glasses off. I’m near-sighted, so I don’t need glasses for close reading.
Linda — I said to my husband on the way home “I wish they had an antidote for this!” I was surprised they don’t offer that, but now it sounds like they have them, but just don’t use them. I get numbing drops too, for the pressure check. It’s time-consuming for both tests, but worth it. Our vision is so important.
Ferd — They made me put on my sunglasses when I left the office. I felt ridiculous because it was cloudy out. I only drove myself one time after a dilation, and never again. And it was at night, which was worse and actually dangerous and irresponsible. I could barely manage. All the lights on cars and street lights were starbursts. Anyone who gets dilation really needs to have someone drive them. That’s my little PSA for this post.
RonLeyba — I’m sorry! I’m sorry!
cardiogirl — Yes, it makes me all twitchy and then you have to wait for things to take effect and you can’t entertain yourself reading office magazines because you can’t see. Luckily, I found a “large print” Reader’s Digest and that was helpful. I looked at myself once later with the big eyes. I looked away quickly. I don’t know why it freaked me out so much. I wasn’t the least bit fascinated.
A few years ago, I had an eye exam at the mall, and I forgot to bring sunglasses. They gave me a pair of these ridiculous cardboard sunglasses, and I thought there is no way I’m going to wear those in public so I threw them away. When I got to the parking lot, it was so sunny, and my eyes so dilated I had to hunch over, squinting my watering eyes shut, with my head down and my hand over my eyes. That looked so much better than the cardboard sunglasses…
My head starts shaking the moment they start coming at me with those eye drops. I hate anything that involves touching my eyeballs, which is why I’ve never worn contacts. BoomBoomLarew´s last blog post ..Greasy Saturdayor Jimmy Big Balls

Well I guess my LASIK surgery was a success. I could read that without squinting! Although of course it was still blurry. Usually when they dilate my eyes I can see just fine, but when they dilated my eyes for the exam before my surgery, they stayed dilated for DAYS! And my vision was so blurry and star-bursty that I worried that my eyes had gone all wonky and were going to be permanently damaged. It was pretty freaky. Ahahahhahaha! Oh, Kathy! I hate having my eyes dilated. And, if it makes you feel any better, my eye doctors has extensive lists/pages about my anxiety with drops being put in my eyes too.
Daisy’s Mom — Oh, that’s too funny. I saw a box of those cardboard glasses at the reception counter. Yeah, they’re hideous. I’m glad I had my sunglasses in my purse. You must have looked a sight.
Boom Boom — You and my husband alike. When I used to wear contacts, he would get all squeamish if he walked in on me putting them in. I’m thinking “Dude! They’re my eyes, not yours.” But still he could never watch.
Jack — Yes, it was hard. But it also made me realize how precious our eyesight is and I really appreciated it.
Lisa — So you’re not mad at me for making you squint then? I figured everybody would be yelling at me in the comments. Kind of devious of me, no?
flit — I cannot imagine the position I’d have to be in to allow a needle in my eye. I read a great book about a guy who had revolutionary procedures done to give him some sight after having been virtually blind all his life. All needle work. He did it and it did restore some of his vision. Interestingly enough, he wasn’t all that happy about it. There are very few documented cases of restorative success from total blindness and not everyone wants it when they get it. Some even tried committing suicide.
Babs Beetle — As long as it doesn’t involve a needle in your eye, I can take it.
Pricilla — Oh, noes!
Surfie — OMG, if mine looked that way for days, I’d simply stay and bed and sleep. I find I get really tired after two hours of that. It’s exhausting for me to focus so hard when you can’t, no matter what you do.
Marvin — Be glad I don’t write like that every post or you’d kill me.
Linda Medrano — You’re lucky you don’t need glasses. Giant pain in the ass. But a necessary evil for like half the people I know.
Meleah Rebeccah — We are freaks! It’s good to know someone else is a basket case. We need to stick together, girl.
The last time I had my pupils dilated, I had to go to a funeral visitation immediately afterwards. I got a *lot* of strange looks.
