What Would Be Your Last Meal?
Bizarre, food June 11th, 2013I found a weird article today, a photo depiction of actual death row inmates’ last meal requests.
When I shared it with my sister, Ann, she responded not with her last meal, but her last meals. Plural.
She wants a week’s worth. I guess because if you’re going to die, you should have more than one entrée. Pig out. You know, enjoy yourself.
Sunday….Chinese
Monday….burger from 1818 Tavern
Tuesday….chicken parmesan
Wednesday….pulled pork platter
Thursday….full-on Thanksgiving dinner
Friday….spiral ham with roasted potatoes
Saturday….dessert cart
I think she should go onto Yelp and review the 1818 Tavern restaurant and say that the burgers are literally to die for.
My last meal?
I would want lobster ravioli from a restaurant in New York City that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of. My brother-in-law knows where it is, so if I’m on death row, my last phone call will be to him and he’s gonna have to drive to NYC to get it.
Sorry, Dan. Tell ‘em it’s my last meal and maybe you’ll get a discount.
So, folks. Pretty sure you’ve never had this question posed to you before, but let’s have it….
What would be your last meal?
Stumble it!

I had gastric bypass 3 years, so all my meals and small. Thus, my last meal would be huge in volume: pizza, lobster, shrimp, guacamole, cheesy nachos. There would be a giant pecan cluster Blizzard followed by cherry pie with home made vanilla bean ice cream. Death must follow quickly, or a meal that size would literally kill me.
Mu hubby is lactose and gluten intolerant. He said his last meal would be Little Debbie snacks and lots of ice cream!

Mashed potatoes with cream corn on top, western style ribs, spaghetti w/kernal corn,, bread pudding, strawberry shortcake w/ice cream and whipped cream and water–no ice.

“so if I’m on death row, my last phone call will be to him and he’s gonna have to drive to NYC to get it.”
Kathy, that CRACKED ME UP!!!!!
My last meal would be Aglio e olio (it’s Italian for pasta with garlic and olive oil) with Romano cheese sprinkled over it. And I would also ask for a nice glass of red wine to go with it. And then a York Peppermint Patty for dessert.
Yes, and then I would die in utter peace.
Bwhahahahahahaha!

My mother’s breaded pork tenderloins…cold…the next day. You gotta let the seasoning settle and they are wonderful. My family gets grossed out because that is the ONE leftover I can eat….and I will eat them for breakfast if I remember them in the fridge. For some reason, that bothers them. Oh well….more for me.

This reminds me of a great line from The Simpsons; Homer: “Marge, that meal was so good that if I was on death row, I’d tell the warden to bring on the lethal injection!”
I’m with your sister on this. If you’re going to die why not make it an artery clogger? Maybe save the state a few bucks on the injection.
How about fried chicken, potato salad, my mom’s homemade baked beans, cucumber salad and because they’re my vice, french fries with mayo. Go big before you go home. 😉

Thanks for sending me to an awesome site to wander around in and waste time.
My final meal would be my mother’s roast beef with gravy.
Mashed potates
French style green beans
and her homemade biscuits.
Of course she’s gone, so I’m out of luck.
I do know how to make her biscuits though.

The first thing that comes to mind is my chocolate cake, my lemon bars and then apple pie, cherry pie, blueberry pie, peach pie, mixed berry cobbler, fried red bananas, super ripe mangoes, apricots, nectarines…and maybe some cold grapes – those long green ones, oh and watermelon and fresh pineapple…

Bacon. Plain and simple. Bacon slices as appetizer. Bacon bits on salad with no greens or other vegetables. For the entree, a BLT but hold the L and T and bread. And, finally for dessert bacon fritters without the fried dough.
Yes, I’m half Pennsylvania Dutch.
Sue me! It’s *my* last meal, not yours.

Lynn — “Death must follow quickly…” No kidding! And I think it’s the giant pecan Blizzard that would trigger your explosion. I like how you think. If you’re dying anyway….
Karen — I love the “water, no ice” part. I also love how everyone’s being so specific and really knows what they like and they’re all really full, take-forever-to-eat meals. Way to delay the inevitable!
Ron — I like your meal. It’s like mine.I’ve decided to add wine to my own meal now, even though I don’t drink except for special occasions and I guess this qualifies?
Lin — What an interesting leftover. I eat almost anything as a leftover, and I won’t gross you out by telling you what I can eat cold the next morning.
Mod Mom Beyond Indiedom — It is quite a compliment, isn’t it? OMG. I love french fried in mayo! Even over ketchup, but people generally look at me funny when I do it.
skissman — I love a good biscuit. Had a really good biscuits and gravy meal when I was in Savannah. I could eat that all day.
Grace — So you’re a dessert girl? I was thinking I would go in that direction, but this lobster ravioli from the unknown NY restaurant is just so out of this world, I would even skip dessert for it.
Pricilla — I should have known.
Jesse — Can you believe I didn’t ask for bacon? I love that you’d “old the L and the T.” Who wants that anyway? OMG. Bacon fritters. Yes, please.

Let me see, I’d have some freeze-dried chicken liver, some cheese, some whipped cream and some tuna water.

I gotta be honest, I can’t think of a food that means that much to me that I’d fantasize about eating it with no consequences. If I was about to die by some unforseen circumstances, I’d hope that my last meal wasn’t something stupid like a piece of rolled up ham out of the cold cuts drawer. Unless it’s really good ham.

Rum and coke, with a corn dog, a huge bag of popcorn, and chocolate ice cream with brownie bites in it, topped with caramel sauce and cherry pie filling.
I’m allergic to corn, so I’m on the “If I’m going to die anyway” bandwagon. So if you look back over my list, it’s: rum and corn syrup, corn based meat breaded with corn bread, popped corn, frozen corn syrup with chocolate doughy corn syrup bites, topped with corn syrup, and fruit smothered in corn syrup.

You know, I really don’t know what my last meal would be. I am a person the eats to live, rather than lives to eat. I would wait until the last minute and then decide what I fancied. It could well be a lovely macaroni cheese – Home made, with real cheddar.

That is a great question!!! I think mine would have to be a nicely grilled steak (medium), grilled asparagus, a fresh fruit salad, crusty bread with dipping oil and a big ole piece of chocolate cake with chocolate icing for dessert. And maybe some wine to wash it all down. No, definitely some wine to wash it all down. Oh and maybe an ear of Iowa corn on the cob if it is the right time of year for that when I am on death row…..

Lobster ravioli sounds good, but I’m with your sister I’d have to have a week of last meals … or maybe even a month. I love food way too much.

I read through the original article & decided that I’d go for the cigarettes. If I’m going to die anyway, I want to blow smoke in the warden’s face. No going gently into that good night for me.
June 13th, 2013 at 2:05 pm
Sadly I have been playing this idea out for years. I like to do last breakfast, last lunch, last dinner. Even my kids play along. That being said, my last dinner would be Lobster bisque(love it but I lactose intolerant), ceased salad, a medium rare New York strip steak, mashed potatoes and my Mom’s chocolate cake.

Nora — Ah, a sushi lover in the group! I’ve never tried sushi, so I shouldn’t try to judge it. But that’s the last thing I’d pick. It doesn’t seem like food to me. Maybe I need to run another fund raiser and promise to eat it on camera if I raise enough!
Kim — Well, if it’s awful, maybe the afterlife is like in the movie Defending Your Life and everything after is delicious and you don’t gain weight.
Michelle Hartz — This cracked me up. Although I’m so sorry about the corn. How do you eat then? Everything has corn or corn based products in it!
Babs — That’s always been my mother’s mantra. And it’s why both of you are so tiny! Mac and cheese ain’t a bad choice, though. Try it with bacon. It’ll change your world.
Beth Ann — I’m disappointed I didn’t choose a dessert. I want a do-over! I like your meal. Can you make it for me?
Lovelyn — I do too. And I have the ass to show for it.
Heather — You are such a rebel.
Tricia — Oooo, lobster bisque! They make a great one over at Benner Street, near Lehigh. I’m glad your family humors you.
June 14th, 2013 at 1:58 pm
Yes. I could do that with bacon. I often have sausages with it.

Potatoes, bacon, cheese, krispy kreme doughnuts (glazed, chocolate covered glazed and chocolate covered creme filled)a really good hamburger, and lots of wine, especially a vintage champagne. Not exactly a meal, but just some of my most favorite foods. Oh, and Diet Coke, too, with ice! to go with the doughnuts. 😉
June 18th, 2013 at 5:30 am
Babs — Mmmmm, sausage or bacon would do the trick. Although when I made it with bacon once, dare I say I put in too much bacon? Yes, there is such a thing as too much.
Mulled Vine — Mmmm, double fried chips!
v — Oh, man. Love me some macadamia cookies. Just ate a container of them last week. I won’t say how big the cookies were.
Meleah — Sounds delicious. Also, only you could pull that off.
Linda — I think that would kill you before they got out the syringe.
