MOL. It’s Like LOL, Only Felinier

So today I was remotely troubleshooting a client’s software problem when I happened to realize why her User ID reminds me of something.
A key part of her ID is “MOL” and I blurted out “OMG! You have MOL in your User Name!”
She’s like “What’s that?”
I’m all “It’s what Internet cats say in response to funny comments. You know, “Meow Out Loud.”
Silence.
I explained further “All Internet cats use that. It’s hilarious because they’re not LOL-ing, they’re MOL-ing. Get it? So cute!”
Silence.
I started to list all the famous Internet cats that I know who MOL to see if she recognized any.
She didn’t.
I immediately shut up about meowing out loud Internet cats and resumed working on her computer problem like a normal person.
But now I’m permanently that weirdo she has for tech support.
Awesome.

Ha! I am glad I’m not the only mom who is apparently an uber-dork when it comes to internet stuff. I get the eyeroll a lot, especially when I think I found something new and try to show it to the kids and they have to tell me, “Mom, I saw that on Tumblr like a year ago!”. Whatevs.

If Miss Frankie Lulu Belle could read, and she had read this, she most definitely would have MOL…OTOH, if the Beebster could read, and had read it – he wouldn’t get it.

Chelle — Well, I just learned from a Facebook comment for my post that dogs BOL. Why didn’t I know that? It makes so much sense, with all those cats meowing out loud. It stands to reason that Internet dogs BOL!

Nice. I’ve found it’s good to be the wacky-humored one in the office–most people just write you off as nuts and you can sorta say just about anything then because they don’t expect anything less from you. My favorite is to wacky-enhance my help desk tickets to make the IT guys crack up. Once I had to reset my password and I asked them to make it something exotic like “cinnamon” or “Candy”.

I must admit, for a cat person, who always has three or four of them at any one time, I know very few on line cats. In fact I only know Daisy and grumpy cat. That said, I would at least have shown interest and asked you questions about it. I can’t understand people that don’t respond to crazy people like us 😉

You are still plagued by working in close proximity to accountants, and other numbers people who are basically humorless and, what’s worse, have no idea cats talk. It’s good, in this case, you were remotely troubleshooting because being closer to them can make you want to drink more alcoholic beverages in the evenings which makes them even harder to understand in the mornings.
