It’s Like Winning a Nobel Prize, an Academy Award and the Lottery
Fun, Stuff I don't hate December 7th, 2013I recently began a mission, a serious one this time, to lose 25% of my current weight and I’m on track to do it by spring.
How am I doing it? Simple. Somewhere between 1,200-1,400 calories of “clean” food a day, cardio 30 minutes daily and walking 10 miles a week.
I’ve lost 10 lbs so far in five weeks. Slow and steady, good momentum, highly motivated, feeling happy. I’ll get there.
Today was a very good day, since I was able to drop one size in my jeans. Any woman will tell you this is an exciting milestone moment. Like finding a bathing suit that doesn’t make you look like a sausage squeezed into its casing.
I jumped for joy, showered and headed out to do a bit of Christmas shopping.
At my first stop in my “new” jeans, everyone at the store held doors for me, offered me hugs and told me to have a good day.
Boy, this feels really wonderful!
At the next store, strangers stopped to tell me how fierce I looked in my jeans and asked how they too could look this fabulous.
I didn’t have time to explain, but thanked them anyway and darted to the checkout counter.
The cashier brushed aside customers that were ahead of me in line and said “I’m sorry, but you’ll have to let this lady with the smaller jeans ahead of you because she’s really feeling it today and it would just be better if you let Her Specialness through.”
And so they all stepped out of line and motioned me forward. They applauded and smiled and a couple people high fived me.
Then the cashier told me to just skip paying for my items – You should have all this for free, because you really look good in those jeans. I wish I could look so good in mine.
I thanked her and left to go to the last store, strutting down the sidewalk to the cheers of onlookers.
Great jeans, lady!
Way to rock the look, woman!
I didn’t know they made jeans that small!
When I got to the store, a band was waiting for me and they played a fine rendition of I’m Too Sexy and then they presented me with a congratulatory cake with candles on it that spelled out YOU ROCK! But I declined because cake is not how you get into these jeans, just sayin’.
I bought my last gifts and skipped out of the store to find a limousine waiting for me to take me home because people who can fit into smaller sized jeans shouldn’t have to be bothered with driving.
So you see, fitting into smaller jeans has its benefits. I’m just not telling you which of these benefits, if any, is true.
Well, the ten pounds is true.
Stumble it!

I know exactly how you feel. I won a caption contest on ME-Me-King’s blog.
I’m looking good in my tuxedo and hat and I’m waiting outside for the limo right now.

Sweet mother of mercy- your midriff looks great in that picture too. You should instagram that. 😉 I lost 26 pounds after joining the gym and I didn’t get any of those benefits. On occasion really greasy looking old guys give me the ‘your sexy and you know it’ eye. Which at my age I guess I’ll take. As I always tell my husband, “somebody has got to like it.” ;P

I do not wear jeans. They are too constricting. I like to let my udder swing free. I have been seen recently in a cast off sweatshirt. I do not agree with this fashion statement but it is warm.
Congratulations to you on your weight loss – that is wonderful. I suggest apples. Apples are good food. Apples? Apples? Does someone have apples?

Agent 54 — Winning is fun! And I bet you look real good in a tux!
Ron — Thank you, my friend. I’m sitting at my kitchen table watching the “snow.” It’s sort of pathetic. Looks like dandruff. It’s not even respectable snow. Boo!
Michelle — I actually had that midriff in my 20s. I don’t think it’s possible anymore, but I can get close because my “thing” was always having a freakishly tiny waist. Until I gained all this weight. Laughed at your gym comment. Yeah, pretty much these days I’ll take a compliment wherever I can get it, few as they are!
Famous SpokesGoat Pricilla — You know, if I could just get a good apple that would start rotting a day after I get it home. I don’t eat enough fruit in my diet, and I do loves me some apples, but I can’t seem to find good ones lately. I think I need a farmer’s market. And p.s. I’ve been letting my udder swing too long. It’s time to take back my body!

I’m most impressed that you started a weight loss routine around the holidays. After the vast amount of cookies and egg nog, I’m wondering why sweatpants are not an acceptable fashion choice.

Ha ha! See what fitting into smaller jeans has done for you? It’s opened up your creative writing. Not that I’m saying it’s creative in the sense that it isn’t true…….Well at least the 10 lbs. Well done! You’ve made me want to do more exercise now, but I have to think of my old bones 🙂

Congratulations, Kathy! What a fun, funny post! But yes! That’s exactly how it feels when you can finally fit into the too-small jeans that have been hanging in your closet for a year, too. Woo-hoo! I’m doing the happy dance for you. 🙂

Watching the numbers on the scale go down, feeling lighter, moving more easily . . . all are great, but nothing compares to the feeling of fitting into smaller jeans. NOTHING! The day I finally fit into my “skinny” jeans, the town held a parade. Of course, I didn’t go outside to enjoy it, because I couldn’t tear myself away from my mirror.
Go on, witchyo bad self, Skinny Kathy!

Way to go! Losing ten pounds ain’t easy. Seriously, I wish I had an ounce of your discipline. Maybe not an ounce. I’d like to take a limo to work, too.

Jack — I know, crazy right? But I look at it like if I can get though Thanksgiving and all of December without gaining, I’ve already won. Have some cookies for me, will ya?
Babs — I think of my old bones, too. Which is why I modify most of my cardio routine so I don’t wind up on crutches or having to use a cane. Just listen to your body and do what it tells you (or tells you not to do). I’m glad I wrote for the blog again. Felt good to do it. Almost as good as fitting into those jeans!
injaynesworld — Thank you so much! I have a dresser FULL of jeans I can’t fit into yet, but I’m keeping them there for the day I can.
Lin — Bikini will never happen in my lifetime. Haven’t been able to wear one since grade school probably. But I’d take a decent-sized one piece and walking on a beach without scaring small children.
Meleah — Thank you for saying that, Meleah. That means so much to me, considering I haven’t written anything for a month. I’m DTD!!! Writing! Gee, what a novel idea.
MikeWJ — Meat is sexy, for sure. It sizzles!
Julia at the Grateful Addict — I’m laughing at your comment, but it’s not that far off. For the first time in a couple years, I’m not running away from mirrors and plate glass windows! Feels all kinds of awesome. But it’s not coming without a lot of sweat and food management. It takes work, but I’m willing to do it because JEANS!
Lauren — I honestly don’t know where my discipline is coming from. It really just “clicked” for me this time, after so many failed attempts before. I’m in the zone, haven’t wavered and have confidence I can lose the rest of the weight, and more importantly, keep it off. Maintenance is just as hard, if not harder, than losing weight. I accept all prayers, just sayin’.
Dorothy Stahlnecker — Yes!!!! I remember you and thank you for coming back. I’m so glad to see you hear. I smiled when I saw your name again. Don’t be a stranger, ya hear! And I promise I’ll write more so there’s something worth coming back to.

That’s a good story from a blogger who looks outstanding (meaning really great) in those one-size-smaller jeans.
Good luck in your quest to lighten the load.
I hope you keep it off and you never fall into the clutches of the perennial see-saw witch who never leaves me and keeps my weight up and down and up and down and well, I’m sure you know how see-saws work.
