How to Make Sure People Find Your House
Bizarre September 5th, 2009It would be so much easier directing people to my house if I had one of these. "Pull in at the seven foot bird."
When my husband and I parked outside this house to take pictures, I’m pretty sure no one wondered why.
Polly want a cracker? No? How ’bout some junk mail?
Stumble it!

The publicist moved to a barrier island off of New Jersey when she was 12. As it grew in popularity the northern end (where the rich folk lived) started building highly architectural (ie: ugly) houses. Then they started competing to put out the most unusual mailbox. There were whales, birds, tractors, you name it. Kitsch to the nth degree.
Are there not better things on which to spend money? Like goat feed…..

Hey Kathy
What a cool mailbox! We had something called superboxes ~ it is similar to how an apartment build would get their mail delivered, it is a stand alone box that you need to go to get your mail. So poll would not get any junk mail

Well, I would have to admit, the bird mailbox is a pretty cool way to make yourself noticed, and yes I want one too 😛

Can you imagine what the inside of her house must look like? You just KNOW there are parrots everywhere….pooping on everything….can’t you just see it?

I think it is great to see such creativity! I have seen them down in Kemah as well and just love to see ’em! I want one for my front yard.
September 8th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
When directing people to my house, I just tell them it’s the house with the knee high grass.
September 8th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
well, it is eye catching. we have a large boulder that hubby used to hold our mailbox. it actually rests on top. we are pretty sure no one will smack it with a baseball bat.
on another note, i did see an animal mailbox holder that made me laugh, it was a frog’s body with the mailbox balancing on the feet. it looked like a frog doing a head stand with it’s head buried in the ground. very odd.
hugs,
puglette

I noticed Sniffie above mentioned the manatee mailboxes. Also dolphins. And flamingos. This is in my dad’s area in Florida. I should totally try to remember to do a Goofy Mailbox Montage for when I go down there at Thanksgiving.
PS– That is ONE BIG BIRD!

Kathy I do apologize but this time I do have to say no thank you!! Although, come to think of it, perhaps if I were to get one and put it out by our pond, we just might solve our bobcat problem!!

I would be totally scared to death if I lived near someone who had a mailbox that looked like that. I loved that you stopped to take pictures but you forget to get yourself in the picture. The best part of taking a picture of something crazy is to include yourself in it so you can prove you were there. (You could be hugging it or trying to climb it or feeding it a giant cracker. Am I going to far here?)

Beautiful house; tacky bird. This reminds me of those blow-up Easter bunnies I see in some yards at that time of year. If I had the nerve and a BB gun, I would knock off every last one of them—along with any pink flamingo lawn ornaments.

I bet that it really doesn’t benefit them like you think. They are sponged off of by their neighbors who use the mailbox to give directions to THEIR houses.
“If you pass the giant Macaw, you’ve gone too far.”
“We are the first white house after that big bird.”
And so on and so forth.
Because the neighborhood is getting so much use from it, they should charge their neighbors a certain percentage that diminishes the farther the neighbor lives from the bird. Except the people on the next block behind would get it because they probably tell people “its NOT the block with the bird on it, but the NEXT one.”
You know, you have to pay for upkeep.

Wow…I want one. We have mail loccers at the entrance to our neighborhood. Still, a giant parrot might cheer us up when we get our daily load of bills. Or maybe an elephant…with antlers (long story – see my blog for details).

Hey, at least it’s not one of those mailboxes where the homeowner unlocks it from the back side to take out the mail. Then you’d essentially be pulling your mail out of the bird’s butt.

Well, I guess I should own a house first, lol.
But I’m sure my apartment manager won’t notice one in my living room.

That’s an awesome mailbox! Very cute .
When I was little I used to have a bird like that. My grandma had over 50 birds in a room next to living room.
We called that particular bird Aurora.
Anyways- very adorable 😉

Once my dad painted the house burnt orange. It seemed to have a glow. Not a good idea! We’d just tell people follow the organge glow up the hill.

NOW I KNOW HOW TO GET MY HOMEOWNER’S ASSOCIATION TO GET OFF THEIR BUTTS!
I will put up a 7-foot tall bird. Except I’m going to put up a flamingo with purple lightning streaks. And I’m going to hold the whole neighborhood hostage with it until they do something about my neighbor letting her damned dogs run loose & bite people.
I feel so much better now that I have a plan.

I need one of these! I live in one of those neighbourhoods, washing the cars on sunday, mowing the laws, bbqs, everybody working by the same schedule.
How wonderful to have a giant parrot guarding the entrance and becoming a beacon of difference and originality 🙂

I will never let a big macaw like the one in the post hang around in front of my yard. A small letter box would do.
